Searching and Fields
In this database you may choose the Terms and Connectors search method or the Natural Language search method.
With a Terms and Connectors search, you enter a query, which consists of key terms from your issue and connectors specifying the relationship between those terms. With Natural Language, you can retrieve documents by simply describing your issue in plain English.

Tip: When you select this database, the eight most current editions are displayed in page mode. Type L and press ENTER to view the citations list.
Use the locate command to view material within those issues.
Tip: A list of all publications indexed by the Current Index to Legal Periodicals, and the addresses for each, is available as a searchable document. A list of all publications and their abbreviations is also available as a searchable document. Both of these documents appear in the Publist field search term in your query.
Use publist from the Enter Query screen to retrieve these publications lists.
Use publist(Duke) from the Enter Query screen to find out whether CILP indexes articles from Duke Law Journal.
Tip: A list of subject headings or topics used by the Current Index to Legal Periodicals is available as a searchable document. The contents of the document appears in the Sublist field. This list includes all topics used, whether or not they were used in the eight most recent issues which are contained in this database.
Use sublist from the Enter Query screen to retrieve the subject heading list.
Use sublist(housing) to retrieve the list of topics with the word housing highlighted.
Tip: Each weekly edition contains a key to citations, index entries listed under topical headings, and tables of contents for each of the legal periodicals indexed. To restrict a search to a topic used in the index, such as computer law, or to a particular law review, such as Alaska Law Review, include a Topic field search term in your query (which must be entered from the Enter Query screen) or after your locate command (which must be entered from a document).
Use topic (computer) to view index entries classified under computer law.
Use locate topic ("alaska law review") to view the table of contents for
Alaska Law Review.
Tip: If you wish to search more comprehensive indexing or a larger number of legal periodicals spanning the last decade, use either LRI, Legal Resource Index, prepared by Information Access Company, or ILP, Index to Legal Periodicals, prepared by the H.W. Wilson Company.
Tip: Use a date restriction in your query to retrieve documents issued on a specific date or during a specific range of dates, e.g., da(aft mm/dd/yyyy & bef mm/dd/yyyy).
